Our Story

Wilbur-Ellis’ roots in ingredients for the livestock, pet food, and aquaculture industries date back to the company’s founding in 1921. Back then, the family-owned business began as a fishmeal import-export business. In the decades that followed, Wilbur-Ellis found important new feed and ingredient sources and markets for customers across the U.S., Canada, and beyond.

In the 1970s and 80s, the company added nutrition and other products while continuing to expand its footprint. Beginning in 2010, Wilbur-Ellis combined the knowledge and relationships from the Feed division and the connections, know-how, and operating capabilities of its Connell Brothers division in Asia to create Feed Asia. Now, Wilbur-Ellis’ customers and suppliers have attractive new revenue opportunities in markets from China to Malaysia. In 2011, Wilbur-Ellis invested in processing facilities through acquisitions in the United States and New Zealand for the delivery of quality ingredients to the pet food industry. For the first time, Wilbur-Ellis would operate its own processing facility outside North America.

Originally operating as a trading company, Wilbur-Ellis Feed has evolved over the decades to provide much more. Today, Wilbur-Ellis connects its business partners with a wide range of products that offer a variety of solutions that meet rigorous standards for quality and safety. Customers know they can rely on Wilbur-Ellis to deliver what they need when and where they need it. Suppliers know that through today’s Wilbur-Ellis, they can access new markets and new revenue streams.

But while the company is determined to create the best, most innovative and cutting-edge opportunities for its partners, it will always adhere to the principles first established by Brayton Wilbur so many years ago. Partners know they can depend on Wilbur-Ellis to consistently bring fresh thinking and integrity to all of its relationships.

“We do what we say we will do.”
