Company increasingly on the map in by-product markets

SAN FRANCISCO — April 29, 2011 — Wilbur-Ellis Company announced today that it has purchased the assets of American By-Products Inc. (ABP), a company that services the pet food industry with high-end protein meals.  ABP will now be part of Wilbur-Ellis’ Feed Division.

Wilbur-Ellis already has cooperative arrangements with MillerCoors LLC and Basic American Foods, among other leaders in the industry, to package and market the by-products produced from their facilities.

“ABP’s network in the poultry sector of the pet food business is something that the Feed Division has desired for quite some time,” said Marc Yung, business development manager for the Wilbur-Ellis Feed Division. “The ABP team are experts in this business and that is made very apparent in their high-standard, quality control process, and the diversity of their capabilities adds a potential for growth for our company.”

“We’ve spent quite some time diversifying our customer and supplier base, and we are seeing an increasing desire from our customers for the global footprint that a company like Wilbur-Ellis can deliver,” said Gerald and Doug Haning, of ABP.  “Our customers and suppliers will enjoy the high-quality expertise that Wilbur-Ellis will bring, expanding opportunities for all, including our employees.”

ABP is located in Rosser, Texas.  The company currently processes and sells a variety of protein meals that include, but are not limited to chicken meal, chicken by-product meal, lamb meal and fish meal.

Jerry Haning, along with his two sons, Gerald and Doug Haning, will continue to manage the business under the supervision of Marc Yung.
